Seeds bred to eliminate male plants first reached the commercial market in the 1990s, introduced by Dutch breeding companies. Early versions of all female marijuana seeds had a mixed reputation, as unstable parent stock sometimes led to plants with both male and female flowers. Refined selection methods over the following decades made the results far more consistent. Today this category accounts for the majority of seed sales to home growers in most markets.
